What is MLH?

Major League Hacking (MLH) is the official student hackathon league. MLH is an engaged and passionate maker community, consisting of the next generation of technology leaders and entrepreneurs. MLH has been a community first, a mission-driven organization from the beginning. MLH is the leading and growing community for students to help them achieve all-round development. It encourages students to take part in various events and hackathons sponsored by the big tech-giants and also provides some good hacker resources to be competitive with others. Not only this they also have the facility of hosting our own hackathons brand under the guidance of experienced hackers from MLH.

Various Programs by MLH:-

  1. MLH Fellowship
  2. LHD:Build
  3. Events and Hackathons

What is MLH Fellowship?

The MLH Fellowship is a 12-week internship alternative for aspiring software engineers. It is a very good opportunity for all the students to test their knowledge in solving some good real-world problems. It provides students a platform to learn, code, and collaborate with other team members in a pod[Group of People]. Besides these learning things they also provide some interesting games and events in which we can showcase our inter-personal skills to other members. MLH Fellowship is not about just coding 24 Hrs but its main motive is to build your community, share what you learn, grow your network, and last but not least your communication skills. It comprises three tracks:-

  1. Explorer track.
  2. Open Source Track.
  3. Externship.

What is LHD: Build?

Local Hack Day: Build is a week-long celebration of creating hacks both big and small. Major League Hacking's Local Hack Day is a series of simultaneous global events designed to spark a passion for technology in your local community. Hackers from all around the world participate in the events and hackathons hosted by MLH and some member organizations. The events comprise of some challenges and tasks to be done by hackers to receive the points. It's a great event especially for beginners to work on some beginner-friendly projects and add them to their resumes.

My Experience in Local Hack Day: Build.

I got to know about LHD: Build from the Twitter handle of MLH, then without wasting any time I straight away registered in it as I participated in LHD:2020 also and was knowing how cool the community and its events are, there were lots of mini-events, hackathons, workshops conducted by mentors and coaches of MLH. In beginning, I felt a little nervous about participating in hackathons as I was not well versed with the latest tech-stacks compared to other guildmates. Then on moving forward I decided to build hacks on the tech-stack which I know "Web-Dev" and made some little hacks like:-

  1. Password-Encryption
  2. Techno-Dict Resources
  3. Hackathon Brand

Below are some Pics from LHD: Build

  1. Each day at around 9:00 PM IST, our guild used to have a guild meet in which all the guildmates collaboratively work on a single hack and help others to solve their doubts.

2.MLH has got a very powerful community of active hackers engaged in solving doubts of hackers and the guildmates were also quite helpful. Our major interaction throughout the LHD: Build was on Discord.
